Enhance privacy and protection against hacking and cybercriminals
Privacy Guard is an advanced method we're using to not only block malicious URLs via our Safe Browsing feature, but also add new protections by blocking cybercriminals from viewing the sites you visit, or redirecting you to malicious sites.
Privacy Guard further protects you by encrypting your Domain Name System (DNS) requests and filtering harmful websites before a connection to the site is made.
We do this with three core principles:
Encryption: hides the data being transferred from third parties.
Authentication: ensures that the parties exchanging information are who they claim to be.
Integrity: verifies that the data has not been forged or tampered with.
When you visit a website, you generally type in a web address such as www.lookout.com. DNS turns this easy to read and remember address into its true Internet Protocol (IP) address. When DNS requests are processed unencrypted, there's potential for cybercriminals to view or hijack your request and either snoop on your browser activity or even redirect you to fake, phishing or otherwise harmful sites.
